Thoughts on housing problems

We fix the world’s housing problems by pursuing three goals together: build enough homes where people need them, ensure people with low incomes can afford decent housing, and improve unsafe or inadequate homes that already exist. Supply reform, public investment, and household assistance are complements—not competing ideologies. That combination is broadly consistent with the policy frameworks of the OECD, World Bank, and urban-development researchers. [oecd](https://www.oecd.org/content/dam/oecd/en/publications/reports/2021/05/brick-by-brick_eb010639/b453b043-en.pdf)

My central principle would be **affordability**: judge housing policy by whether people can obtain a safe, stable home near work and services—not by whether property prices keep rising.

Here is the economic and planning framework I would use.

## 1. Recognize that there is more than one housing crisis

A worldwide strategy needs common principles but different local priorities.

| Housing problem | Main policy priority |
|—|—|
| Expensive cities with insufficient homes | Allow more construction, provide infrastructure, and expand affordable rental housing |
| Informal settlements without reliable services | Upgrade water, sanitation, drainage, housing safety, and tenure security |
| Low-income households unable to afford available housing | Provide targeted assistance and subsidized housing |
| Deteriorating or poorly located housing | Renovate existing homes and improve connections to jobs and services |
| Housing exposed to flooding, extreme heat, or other hazards | Retrofit, plan safer development, and relocate where risks cannot reasonably be reduced |

These distinctions matter: an additional apartment does not solve a household’s lack of income, and a mortgage subsidy does not provide sanitation to an informal settlement. OECD and World Bank research treats finance, land, infrastructure, housing quality, and affordability as interconnected but distinct problems. [oecd](https://www.oecd.org/content/dam/oecd/en/publications/reports/2021/05/brick-by-brick_eb010639/b453b043-en.pdf)

## 2. Make it legal—and practical—to build more homes

In supply-constrained cities, I would replace discretionary, project-by-project bargaining with clear development rules:

- Allow duplexes, townhouses, small apartment buildings, and secondary suites across more residential neighbourhoods.
- Permit greater density around transit, employment centres, and existing services.
- Establish predictable approval deadlines and a single coordinated permitting process.
- Retain safety, accessibility, and environmental requirements while removing rules that unnecessarily restrict housing types.

The important distinction is between regulating the quality of development and preventing development. More flexible zoning and faster approvals can unlock housing, but planning reform needs financing and infrastructure alongside it. [penniur.upenn](https://penniur.upenn.edu/publications/expert-voices-2025-access-to-sustainable-and-affordable-housing)

I would not make every neighbourhood a high-rise district. The aim is a wider range of homes, including modest-sized dwellings that use expensive land more efficiently. [brookings](https://www.brookings.edu/articles/to-improve-housing-affordability-we-need-better-alignment-of-zoning-taxes-and-subsidies/)

## 3. Fund infrastructure before promising housing growth

Permission to build is not the same as a buildable site.

Housing plans should be paired with funded water, sewer, drainage, transport, and other necessary services. In rapidly growing cities, making serviced land available is a central part of making housing possible—not a secondary concern. [openknowledge.worldbank](https://openknowledge.worldbank.org/entities/publication/80fdbaa4-4ce0-5681-830a-ad3eeb636532)

My recommended funding model would combine:

- National or regional infrastructure investment.
- Local contributions tied transparently to actual infrastructure needs.
- Recovery of some land-value gains created by public investment.
- Long-term financing appropriate to the useful life of infrastructure.

Land-value capture means recovering part of the increase in land value produced by public decisions or infrastructure and using it to fund public benefits, including affordable housing. It is one way to avoid leaving the public with all the costs while landowners receive all the gains. [penniur.upenn](https://penniur.upenn.edu/publications/expert-voices-2025-access-to-sustainable-and-affordable-housing)

## 4. Build a permanent affordable-housing sector

Private construction is necessary, but it cannot replace assistance for households whose incomes cannot cover adequate housing costs. OECD policy recommendations therefore include both removing supply bottlenecks and investing in affordable and social housing. [oecd](https://www.oecd.org/content/dam/oecd/en/publications/reports/2021/05/brick-by-brick_eb010639/b453b043-en.pdf)

I would expand a mix of:

- Public housing.
- Non-profit rental housing.
- Housing cooperatives.
- Community land trusts.
- Privately delivered housing with enforceable, long-term affordability conditions.

Community land trusts retain ownership of land and use arrangements such as long-term leases and resale restrictions to preserve affordability. That helps keep a public or charitable investment benefiting successive households rather than just its first recipient. [weforum](https://www.weforum.org/stories/urban-transformation/global-housing-crisis-practical-solutions/)

My preferred rule: when public land or substantial public subsidy supports a project, secure durable public value. Contracts should clearly specify affordability, maintenance, eligibility, and what happens if the provider sells or fails.

Operating and maintenance budgets matter as much as the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

## 5. Help people immediately—but avoid simply bidding up prices

People cannot wait years for new construction. Targeted rental assistance and other income supports should bridge the gap between what vulnerable households can pay and what adequate housing costs. However, those measures need to accompany supply expansion. [oecd](https://www.oecd.org/content/dam/oecd/en/publications/reports/2021/01/building-for-a-better-tomorrow-policies-to-make-housing-more-affordable_51f68a86/5d9127d4-en.pdf)

I would be much more cautious about broad homebuyer grants, mortgage tax breaks, or easier borrowing in markets with limited supply. OECD research warns that generous ownership subsidies can increase demand and raise prices rather than solve the underlying shortage. [oecd](https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/oecd-economic-surveys-netherlands-2025_2dd1f4aa-en/full-report/towards-a-more-accessible-and-sustainable-housing-market_84a37526.html)

The distinction is:

- Targeted assistance protects people who need help now.
- Supply investment improves the options available over time.
- Broad purchasing subsidies can make households better able to bid without making homes more plentiful.

The goal should be secure housing, whether rented, cooperative, or owned—not homeownership at any financial cost.

## 6. Protect tenants without making rental provision unworkable

A functioning rental system should provide stability for tenants and a viable basis for financing and maintaining buildings.

My recommended package would include clear leases, enforceable maintenance standards, protection against arbitrary eviction, accessible dispute resolution, and carefully designed rent stabilization where appropriate. OECD research recognizes the protection rent controls can provide, while also warning that poorly calibrated restrictions can discourage investment or worsen allocation. The effects depend on the policy’s design and the surrounding market. [oecd](https://www.oecd.org/content/dam/oecd/en/publications/reports/2021/01/building-for-a-better-tomorrow-policies-to-make-housing-more-affordable_51f68a86/5d9127d4-en.pdf)

This is not a choice between “landlords can do anything” and “freeze every rent forever.” Protect existing residents while ensuring that new rental homes can be built and existing ones maintained.

## 7. Upgrade informal settlements—not just replace them

For much of the world, housing reform is about reliable services, safer structures, and protection against losing one’s home.

Where feasible, I would prioritize improvement in place:

- Safe water and sanitation.
- Drainage and flood protection.
- Safer access and transport connections.
- Incremental structural improvements.
- Resolution of land-rights disputes and more secure tenure.
- Financing that lets residents improve homes progressively.

World Bank work identifies in-place upgrading, serviced sites, land readjustment, and redevelopment as different tools; relocation is an option when other approaches cannot address the problem. Its housing programmes also emphasize community planning, infrastructure, and tenure together. [documents1.worldbank](https://documents1.worldbank.org/curated/en/099111023105529602/pdf/P174764054bcca05b0843c06b4a68c48f08.pdf)

My planning preference would be to involve residents from the outset and preserve their access to livelihoods. A technically better building is not a successful solution if its location makes daily life unaffordable.

## 8. Improve construction productivity—and preserve usable homes

We should pursue lower construction costs through repeatable designs, better procurement, workforce training, and appropriate prefabricated or modular methods. The European Investment Bank identifies construction productivity, regulatory reform, and financing as complementary parts of the affordability response. [eib](https://www.eib.org/en/stories/housing-crisis-solutions-europe)

But I would not bet the strategy on one technology. Modular construction is a tool, not a substitute for affordable land, infrastructure, approvals, or financing.

Existing homes also deserve investment. Renovation, insulation, passive cooling, and other upgrades can improve housing quality, reduce household energy costs, and strengthen resilience. Housing should be assessed by its ongoing cost and suitability—not just its purchase price. [wri](https://www.wri.org/insights/how-solve-worlds-housing-crisis)

## 9. Change incentives around land and public investment

I would review tax systems that favour property accumulation while doing too little to encourage useful housing provision.

Priorities would include examining ownership tax advantages, the treatment of expensive underused land, and whether publicly created land-value gains help finance housing and infrastructure. OECD and Brookings analyses connect these incentives to affordability and land use. [oecd](https://www.oecd.org/content/dam/oecd/en/publications/reports/2021/05/brick-by-brick_eb010639/b453b043-en.pdf)

Vacancy measures and short-term-rental regulation can also be useful where those uses materially reduce available housing, but they belong within a broader policy mix. They are not replacements for construction, social housing, and tenant protection. [world-habitat](https://world-habitat.org/blog/why-housing-became-so-unaffordable-and-how-to-fix-it/)

My test for an intervention would be simple: does it improve access to homes, or merely punish an unpopular category of owner without changing the shortage?

## 10. Put delivery and accountability ahead of announcements

My proposed implementation sequence would be:

| Period | Main priorities |
|—|—|
| First year | Diagnose local needs; protect vulnerable households; identify serviced land and infrastructure constraints; simplify approvals; fund urgent repairs |
| Years 1–3 | Expand affordable-housing programmes; finance infrastructure; establish a predictable construction pipeline; begin settlement upgrading and workforce development |
| Years 3–10 | Sustain construction and renovation; extend transport and services; preserve affordability; revise programmes using measured results |

These are planning horizons, not a promise that every country can solve its shortage on the same timetable.

I would publish a housing dashboard tracking:

- Completed and occupied homes—not merely announcements.
- Housing costs relative to household income.
- Affordable-housing availability and waiting times.
- Homelessness, overcrowding, and displacement.
- Access to water, sanitation, jobs, and transport.
- Approval times, construction costs, and building condition.

The OECD’s housing database similarly separates market conditions, housing quality and affordability, and public policy—because a single headline figure cannot describe whether a housing system is working. [oecd](https://www.oecd.org/en/data/datasets/oecd-affordable-housing-database.html)

## The hardest issue is political

Here is the trade-off governments should acknowledge openly: improving affordability cannot depend on homes becoming more expensive faster than people’s incomes.

My preferred objective would not be a sudden property crash. It would be a sustained improvement in the relationship between housing costs and household incomes, while expanding safe and stable options for people currently excluded.

That requires governments to stop treating rising property values as the principal measure of housing success. It also requires accepting more homes in established communities, funding infrastructure, and maintaining long-term support for households the market cannot adequately serve.

The practical strategy is neither “leave everything to developers” nor “have government build everything.” It is to give private builders a predictable path to produce homes, give public and non-profit providers the resources to maintain lasting affordability, and give residents protection and assistance where needed. That combined approach addresses both the shortage of suitable housing and the unequal ability to pay for it. Osteoarthritis

by Neil B. Rothwell

Chapter 1

Osteoarthritis is a common joint disease that happens when the slippery tissue called cartilage breaks down over time. [1, 2, 3]

It is often called the “wear and tear” kind of arthritis. It makes joints feel stiff, painful, and hard to move. Hearing that you or a loved one has this disease can feel scary and heavy. It is completely normal to feel worried about how it will change your daily life. Please know that you are not alone. Millions of people walk this same path every day. While there is no cure yet, there are many ways to manage the pain and keep living a happy, active life. [4, 5, 6, 7, 8]

This guide will break down everything you need to know about the disease to assist sufferers manage their disease. [9]

——————————

## 1. How a Healthy Joint Works

To understand this disease, it helps to know how a healthy joint works. Think of a joint like a hinge on a door. It is the spot where two bones meet. [10]

* The Cushion: In a healthy joint, the ends of your bones are covered with cartilage. This is a smooth, rubbery tissue. It acts like a shock absorber for your body. It lets your bones glide over each other without rubbing. [11, 12, 13, 14, 15]

* The Fluid: Your joints also have a special fluid called synovial fluid. Think of this like oil for the door hinge. It keeps things moving smoothly and reduces friction. [16, 17, 18]

* The Capsule: A tough membrane wraps around the joint to keep the fluid inside and protect the whole structure. [19, 20, 21, 22]

When all these parts work together, you can walk, bend, and lift things without any pain. [23]

——————————

## 2. What Happens inside the Joint

When you have osteoarthritis, the smooth cushion starts to change. It does not happen overnight. It is a slow process that goes through a few steps: [24]

1. The Cushion Thins: The cartilage starts to lose its water and flexibility. It becomes rough and brittle. [25, 26]

2. The Cushion Wears Away: Over time, the cartilage can wear down so much that pieces of it flake off. [27, 28]

3. Bone Rubs on Bone: If the cartilage wears away completely, the bones begin to scrape directly against each other. This rubbing causes most of the pain you feel. [29, 30, 31, 32]

4. Bone Spurs Grow: To try and fix the damage, your body grows extra bits of bone. These are called bone spurs. They look like tiny bumps on the joint and can make the joint look larger or misshapen. [33, 34, 35, 36, 37]

5. Mild Swelling: The joint can get irritated and slightly swollen. This is called inflammation. [38, 39]

——————————

## 3. The Main Signs and Symptoms

Every person experiences this illness a little differently. Some days will feel better than others. Here are the most common signs to watch for: [40]

* Pain: Your joints may ache during or after you move them. The pain often feels like a deep, dull ache.

* Stiffness: You might notice your joints feel very stiff when you first wake up in the morning. This stiffness usually goes away after about 30 minutes of moving around.

Joints can also get stiff if you sit still for a long time.

* Tenderness: The joint might feel sore when you press on it lightly with your fingers.

* Loss of Flexibility: You might find that you cannot bend or straighten your arm or leg all the way anymore.

* Grating Feeling: You might hear or feel a clicking, popping, or grinding sound when you move the joint.

* Extra Bumps: Hard lumps may form around the joint. These are the bone spurs mentioned earlier. They are very common in the finger joints. [41, 42, 43, 44, 45]

——————————

## 4. Which Joints Are Hurt the Most?

This illness can happen in any joint, but it loves to target the parts of your body that carry the most weight or get used the most: [46, 47, 48]

* The Knees: Your knees carry your body weight every time you stand up or walk. This makes them a very common spot for pain and stiffness.

* The Hips: Like knees, your hips do a lot of heavy lifting. Hip pain can make it hard to get out of a chair or put on your shoes.

* The Hands: It often affects the joints at the very tips of your fingers and the base of your thumb. It can make opening jars or writing difficult.

* The Spine: It can break down the cushions between the bones in your neck or lower back. This can cause stiffness and back aches. [49, 50, 51, 52, 53]

——————————

## 5. Why Do People Get This Disease?

It is important to know that getting this illness is not your fault. It is usually caused by a mix of different things that add up over time: [54, 55]

* Getting Older: The risk goes up as you grow older because your joints have done more work.

* Extra Body Weight: Carrying extra weight puts more stress on your hips and knees.

* Past Injuries: If you broke a bone or tore a ligament when you were younger, that joint is more likely to get arthritis later in life.

* Family History: Sometimes, the shape of your joints or the strength of your cartilage is passed down from your parents.

* Repetitive Stress: Doing the same movement over and over for many years—like kneeling for a job or playing certain sports—can stress the joints. [56, 57, 58, 59, 60]

——————————

## 6. How Doctors Find the Problem

If your joints hurt, you should talk to a doctor. They are there to listen and help you find relief. To figure out what is wrong, they will usually do three things: [61, 62]

1. Ask Questions: They will ask where it hurts, how long it has hurt, and what makes it feel better or worse.

2. Physical Exam: They will look at your joints for swelling, redness, and flexibility.

3. Imaging: They might order an X-ray. X-rays cannot see cartilage, but they show the space between your bones. If the space is very narrow, it means the cartilage cushion has worn away. X-rays also show bone spurs. [63, 64, 65, 66, 67]

——————————

## 7. Gentle Ways to Manage the Pain [68]

While we cannot grow new cartilage, there are wonderful tools to manage the symptoms. The goal is to lower your pain so you can keep doing what you love. [69, 70, 71]

## Simple Lifestyle Changes

* Gentle Movement: It might sound strange to move a hurting joint, but movement is medicine! Low-impact exercises like walking, swimming, or riding a stationary bike keep your muscles strong. Strong muscles take the pressure off your joints.

* Weight Management: Losing even a few pounds can take a massive amount of pressure off your knees and hips. It can greatly reduce your daily pain.

* Rest: Listen to your body. If a joint hurts badly, give it a break. Balance busy days with quiet days. [72, 73, 74, 75, 76]

## Using Heat and Cold [77]

* Heat: A warm bath, a heating pad, or a warm towel can relax stiff muscles and soothe a deep ache. Heat is great to use in the morning.

* Cold: An ice pack wrapped in a cloth can numb sharp pain and lower swelling after a long day of moving around. [78, 79, 80]

## Helpful Tools

* Canes and Braces: Using a cane on the opposite side of your painful hip or knee can take away a lot of weight. Knee braces can give you extra support and confidence when walking.

* Jar Openers and Grips: Thick rubber grips on pens, kitchen tools, and utensils can make daily tasks much easier on your hands. [81, 82, 83]

——————————

## 8. Medications and Medical Care

If lifestyle changes are not enough, your doctor can suggest medical treatments to help you feel more comfortable: [84, 85]

* Over-the-Counter Creams and Pills: Some creams can be rubbed directly onto the joint to dull the pain. Simple pain relievers can also reduce aches. Always talk to your doctor before taking any new pills.

* Injections: If the pain is very bad, a doctor can inject medicine directly into the joint. This can quiet down the pain and swelling for a few months at a time.

* Surgery: When the pain prevents you from sleeping or walking, and nothing else works, surgery is the last resort and can be a life-changing option. Surgeons can replace damaged knees or hips with smooth, man-made joints. This surgery helps many people walk again without pain. [86, 87, 88, 89, 90]

——————————

## 9. Finding Peace and Hope

Living with a long-term illness is a journey with ups and downs. It is okay to feel frustrated, sad, or tired of dealing with the pain. Be very kind to yourself on the hard days. [91, 92, 93]

Remember that taking small, simple steps every day—like a short walk, eating well, and resting when you need to—can make a massive difference. You can still live a beautiful, fulfilling life full of joy, laughter, and connection. [94, 95]

——————————

## ✅ Summary of Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a long-term condition where the protective cartilage cushion inside a joint wears down over time, leading to pain, stiffness, and trouble moving. [96, 97, 98, 99, 100]

Chapter 2: Nutrition

Eating foods that fight inflammation can help lower joint pain and protect your cartilage. [1, 2]

Experts from groups like the [Arthritis Foundation] (https://www.arthritis.org/health-wellness/healthy-living/nutrition/anti-inflammatory/the-ultimate-arthritis-diet) and [Arthritis Society Canada] (https://arthritis.ca/healthy-living/food-and-inflammation-if-you-have-arthritis/) highly recommend a Mediterranean-style diet. This means eating plenty of fish, healthy oils, fruits, and vegetables. These foods are full of antioxidants and special compounds that act as natural defense systems for your body. [3, 4, 5, 6, 7]

Here is a simple list of the best anti-inflammatory foods to help your joints:

## 🐟 Fatty Fish

Fish are packed with omega-3 fatty acids. These healthy fats are famous for calming down inflammation, swelling, and joint stiffness. Try to eat them a few times a week. [1, 6, 8]

*

* Salmon

* Sardines

* Mackerel

* Tuna [9]

## 🍓 Colorful Fruits

Dark, bright fruits are loaded with antioxidants. Berries contain special plant compounds called anthocyanins that give them their rich colors and fight joint irritation. [1, 3]

* Blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries

* Tart cherries (very good for joint pain flares)

* Oranges, limes, and grapefruits (high in vitamin C to keep joints healthy) [3, 5, 10]

## 🥦 Green and Leafy Vegetables

Green veggies have vitamins C and K. Vitamin K is great for lowering inflammation markers in your blood. Vegetables like broccoli also have a compound called sulforaphane, which can help protect your joint cartilage. [1, 3, 11, 12, 13]

*

* Spinach and kale

* Broccoli and Brussels sprouts

* Cabbage [1, 3, 5]

*

## 🫒 Healthy Oils and Spices

The types of seasoning and fats you use can make a massive difference in how your joints feel.

* Extra Virgin Olive Oil: According to [Harvard Health] (https://www.health.harvard.edu/healthy-aging-and-longevity/foods-that-fight-inflammation), it contains a compound called oleocanthal. This works very similarly to over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen to soothe your joints!

* Turmeric and Ginger: These spices contain natural chemicals that switch off the body’s inflammatory response.

* Garlic: Garlic helps reduce the swelling in joints and protects cartilage. [9, 10, 14, 15, 16]

*

## 🥜 Nuts, Seeds, and Beans

These foods give you plant-based protein, healthy fats, and fiber. Fiber is excellent because it lowers a specific protein in your blood that causes inflammation. [10, 17, 18, 19, 20]

*

* Walnuts, almonds, and chia seeds

* Black beans, pinto beans, and chickpeas [7, 9, 21, 22, 23]

*

——————————

## 🍵 What to Drink?

Instead of sugary sodas, which can make inflammation worse, switch to green tea. Green tea is full of polyphenols. These are strong antioxidants that help reduce

6/21/26, 6:35 AM a
inflammation and can even slow down the breakdown of your cartilage. [10, 24, 25, 26, 27]

Chapter 3 Weight and Osteo

Carrying extra weight puts a heavy physical and chemical strain on your joints, which leads to more pain and faster damage. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Medical experts from groups like the [Arthritis Foundation] (https://www.arthritis.org/health-wellness/healthy-living/nutrition/weight-loss/weight-loss-benefits-for-arthritis) and the [Mayo Clinic](https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/osteoarthritis/symptoms-causes/syc-20351925) point out that body weight affects your joints in two distinct ways: through mechanical pressure (physical weight) and cellular inflammation (chemical signals). [6, 7, 8]

Here is a simple breakdown of how weight and joint pain are connected.

——————————

## 1. The Physical Pressure (Mechanical Stress)

Every pound of weight you carry puts extra pressure on the joints that support your body, especially your knees, hips, and lower back. [9, 10, 11, 12, 13]

* The Multiplier Effect: When you walk, run, or climb stairs, the force on your knees is actually 4 to 6 times your actual body weight. [14]

* The Math: If you gain just 10 pounds, your knees feel like they have an extra 40 to 60 pounds of pressure on them with every single step. [15, 16]

* The Damage: This constant heavy pressure crushes the cartilage cushion over time. It causes the cushion to wear away much faster, leading to bone-on-bone rubbing and deep pain. [17, 18, 19, 20, 21]

——————————

## 2. The Chemical Attack (Inflammation)

For a long time, doctors thought extra weight only hurt the knees and hips because they carry the body’s load. However, we now know that extra weight also causes arthritis in the hands and fingers. [22, 23, 24, 25]

This happens because fat cells do not just sit there quietly. They act like tiny chemical factories. [26, 27]

* Inflammatory Chemicals: Fat tissue sends out active chemicals called cytokines into your bloodstream.

* Whole-Body Spread: These chemicals travel through your blood to every joint in your body, including your hands.

* The Result: The chemicals cause irritation, swelling, and redness inside the joints. This chemical irritation destroys cartilage even if the joint does not carry any physical weight. [28, 29, 30, 31, 32]

——————————

## 3. The Pain Cycle

Weight and joint pain often create a frustrating loop that can be hard to break: [33, 34, 35]

1. Extra weight causes joint pain.

2. The joint pain makes it hard to exercise or move around.

3. Sitting still leads to gaining more weight.

4. The new weight causes even more joint pain. [36, 37, 38, 39, 40]

Breaking this cycle can feel overwhelming, but losing even a tiny amount of weight can bring massive relief. [41, 42]

——————————

## ☀ The Good News: Small Losses, Big Relief

You do not need to lose a massive amount of weight to help your joints feel much better. [43]

* Less Pressure: Losing just 10 pounds can take 40 pounds of pressure off your knees with every step.

* Less Inflammation: Dropping even a little bit of fat lowers the amount of inflammatory chemicals in your blood. This helps quiet down the pain in all your joints, including your hands.

* Better Sleep and Mood: Less pain means you can sleep better and move with more confidence. [44, 45, 46, 47, 48]

——————————

## ✅ Summary of Weight and Joint Pain

Extra weight hurts your joints in two ways: the physical weight crushes the cartilage cushion in your knees and hips, while fat cells send out chemicals that cause swelling and pain in all your joints. [49, 50, 51, 52, 53]

Real Food

by Neil B. Rothwell

neilmobile-final.png

While out on errands the other day I noticed that most of the carts being pushed around the store contained mostly processed foods. These foods are one of the main culprits stealing our health!

Switching to real food (un-proccessed) can be intimidating at first, and honestly if took more than a year for us to get sorted out and eating healthy everyday, not occasionaly. It takes consistancy to get there, checking all ingredient labels when purchasing items and the strength to put that product back to look for an alternative. Proccessed foods contain all kinds of extra inngredients that real/whole foods do not. Learning what all these additives/fillers/extenders and preservatives are is a start.

The number one additive used which does the most damage over a lifetime is sugar. Seems it’s in everything nowadays, have our taste buds been highjacked that we crave sugar with every meal? Eliminating that one ingredient in your diet will improve your health 10 fold. No, the artificial sweetners are just as bad if not worse for a number of people. We use honey as our main sweetener and organic maple surup on rare occasions if honey will not work or is unavailable.

Check your cupboards or go online to your local grocer, find a product you buy and look up the ingredients, research them with AI and ask what health issues can be caused by these chemicals.
